The Nervia Valley

Enrico Pelos

General

The Nervia valley is one of the most typical of Liguria with many pictoresque villages still very well preserved. If Dolceacqua, a medieval village with its castle standing still on the hill is the most important one, of no minor interest - from the touristic point of view - is Apricale where in summer very interesting theatre events are performed, or Baiardo. Perinaldo is famous to have given birth to G. Cassini a very famous astronomer. From Baiardo you have a very old church ruin to see placed on a natural balcony to show you all the beauty of the the Ligurian Alps. In Rocchetta Nervina the narrow river canyons are an invitation from amateurs from all over Europe. Pigna was a possession of Provence and Ventimiglia counts and also Buggio with the nearby wonderful unique wood should be seen on the way to Colla Langan, the pass leading to the Argentine Valley. All the villages have interesting churches to see and restaurants or campings nearby. While in Dolceacqua, along the High Way of Ligurian Mountains do not miss a visit to the "Visionarium". A friend photographer presents a unique 3D photo slide show experience with wonderful pictures run together with musique and special effects. Typical dish of the area: "ravioli" with Dolceacqua rossese "one of the best" wines.
