Ligurian sea, mild weather, sceneries and good food are well known worldwide. But it is the inland, which stretches for about 500 km, full of history and places , which is well worth visiting and enjoying. Due to ancient Ligurian and Genoese families who used to travel, and trade all over the world and build castles and mansion houses which now, in many cases, are nice hotels, good restaurants and farmhouses. It was really here, along the Ligurian villages that some English gentlemen started to discover travelling, the good food and how to be a tourist. Liguria mountains have their borders to the west to the French Roja valley and to the North the Apennines separate the Region from Piedmont, Emilia and Tuscany. Many are the interesting itineraries  Liguria. Here are some of them on the web. Trekkers and tourists can walk together on the old paths, once called  “commercial routes”, such as the "Slate Path" or the "Columbus Itinerary", which allowed the transport of the inland products to the coast ports. The "High Way of the Ligurian Mountains"  includes also some tracks of the "Salt ways", which were important in the commercial exchanges between Liguria and other regions. The natural environment is still savage  in many places, also thanks to the creation of many protected areas and parks, making it possible to pass from hills to mountains  in a few minutes. The creation of cultural parks, itineraries linking different resorts which have become famous thanks to a writer (as for ex. Caproni in the Trebbia Valley), also pleases the tourist who wants to discover the cultural aspect of the walk, on the same tracks once followed by pilgrims, by medieval monks or by the Romans.
